As we leave another summer behind, the time has come where we continue to miss it
But – no need to worry!
Those summer jams that you kept on playing the whole season are the ultimate time machines that’ll take you back to those warm summer days, over and over again!
Here in this list, we’re breaking down the top ten songs that left their mark in the summer of 2022.
While making this list, we’re taking into account the number of Spotify streams, how well the song fits with the theme, and of course, my personal taste!
And as a side note, this is gonna be an international list. So, expect music from a variety of countries!
10 – Beyoncé – Break My Soul
I know, I know. Don’t get mad at me for putting Beyoncé only at number ten on this list. As much as I love Beyoncé, let’s be honest, this is not her best effort.
But it doesn’t mean that the song is anywhere near bad.
It has a catchy tune, the lyrics are captivating, and the old-fashioned disco vibe gives you enough satisfaction.
It also boasts a remarkable 163 million streams on Spotify!
No matter what, “Break My Soul” remains one of the biggest hits of summer 2022.
9 – Tommaso Paradiso – Piove in discoteca
Now, our first international entry comes from Italy. Benvenuta!
The world was going crazy over how well the 80s sound was brought back to the music, thanks to Dua Lipa and the Weeknd. And now, it seems, it’s Italy’s turn to bring up the volume.
“Piove in discoteca” reflects the ear-catching synth-pop of the 80s very well and has a natural charisma. Paradiso’s voice has a classic Italian rawness and fits the song perfectly.
After you’ve listened to this, you’ll want to buy your next flight ticket to Napoli and dance in the “discoteca” in the rain!
8 – Rosa Linn – Snap
Yet we greet another international entry from Armenia.
“Snap” was Armenia’s entry for Eurovision Song Contest this year and it achieved a big success thanks to TikTok.
Originally, “Snap” was not a big hit in its hometown, in Europe, and it came in 20th place in the contest.
However, throughout the summer, and I don’t know why, the song has become a sensational hit with a massive outbreak on TikTok.
It gathered a lip-biting 130 million Spotify streams and was on almost everyone’s lips at some point.
It’s not a bad thing, though – the song is cute. But there were much better songs in the contest deserving of such high streaming figures on Spotify.
It’s doubtful if Rosa Linn has ever expected her song to be such a big hit by the end of the summer, but she definitely snapped a big shot!
7 – Glass Animals – Heat Waves
Technically this song came out way before the summer, but hey, it still rocked as it just came out!
“Heat Waves” is just one of those songs that you can’t get out of your head and radios knew. It kept on playing everywhere and we just couldn’t have enough.
Honestly, this song is so good that it should be the song of the year. But, since this list only focuses on the summer, it ranks only as high as number seven.
6 – Lizzo – About Damn Time
When it comes to summer hits, Lizzo knows just what to do. And, “About Damn Time” didn’t disappoint.
It has a sweet 90s teen-pop vibe to it and it brought joy to our summer days.
Of course, Lizzo being Lizzo, she finds the perfect balance between fun and chill, and that makes for another great summer song.
5 – Ethel Cain – American Teenager
Now, this is not your typical summer song as it’s considerably long, mid-tempo, and kind of sad.
But from another perspective, that makes a great summer song! It goes well by the beach, during a car trip, and maybe at your barbecue with your friends!
You can even play it up on clubs with a decent remix. But trust me, you won’t need to.
4 – Christophe Willem – PS: Je t’aime
And here comes our entry from France!
French has the reputation for being the language of love, and although I have my own reservations about that, this song has an undeniable ability to lighten up our summer days.
“PS: Je t’aime” gives you all the good French vibes while keeping the track disco enough. Smooth vocals and soothing music were what we needed while sipping our margaritas.
3 – Jungle – Good Times
This one is pure satisfaction.
Jungle has always been on my personal list as the quality of their music never disappoints and they have such a versatile musical style.
Now let’s talk about the “Good Times”. The artistry… That funky vibe… The badass lyrics… And nothing but good vibes were all the things that I didn’t know that I was looking for.
This song is just perfect and it makes me happy that it got the recognition it deserved.
2 – Harry Styles – As It Was
Harry scored big time this year. His latest album is still rocking the music charts and each single achieved great success so far.
But, “As It Was” remained his ultimate summer jam this year. Bringing back the 80s synth pop is always a good route to take and I loved it.
It scored massive on Spotify as well, with more than 1 billion streams!
But there’s one song that ultimately defined the summer of 2022 for me!
1 – Chanel – SloMo
Here we are again, with another entry from Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Chanel represented Spain with her smash hit “SloMo” and came in 3rd place.
But among the fans, it remained a classic.
Now, it may look like that I was playing favourites on this list, but hear me out. This song is the perfect summer jam that you’ve been looking for all year!
Catchiness? Check. Makes you wanna dance? Check. Bomb-ass lyrics? Done. Play it on repeat? Over and over!
But what’s even more impressive is that the live performance is something for the gods!
