Amazon is a global e-commerce retailer. Four primary customer sets are served: consumers, sellers, enterprises, and content creators. Amazon also operates as AWS (Amazon Web Services), providing SAAS services to enterprises, small businesses, and companies alike. “With a focus on selection, price and convenience…”, Amazon manages to successfully serve its customers via its various currency-based sites around the globe. Its websites allow for products across various ranges to be sold both by Amazon and third-party retailers. Founded in July 1994, their headquarters are based in Seattle, Washington, United States.

In addition, Amazon has some original, innovative products to show for consumer needs. For example, the Kindle e-reader is one of its best products. Customers can access millions of books via the kindle unlimited subscription. The company aims to provide the lowest prices possible and free shipping offers. The Amazon Prime subscription provides premium shipping services to customers. By allowing sellers to sell via their platform, Amazon earns fixed fees and revenue share fees or per-unit activity fees via transactions.

Via Amazon Web Services, the needs of developers and enterprises are met. Thus, access to technology infrastructure is provided. “The company operates in two principal segments: North America and International. The North America segment consists of retail sales of consumer products and subscriptions through North America-focused websites such as http://www.amazon.com and http://www.amazon.ca. The International segment consists of retail sales of consumer products and subscriptions through internationally-focused locations. This segment includes export sales from these internationally based locations, including export sales from these sites to customers in the U.S. and Canada.

Initially, the company started off as a bookstore. Jeff Bezos began this idea with contributions from John Ingram (owner of Ingram Content Company). Within the first 2 months of business, Amazon sold to all U.S. states and over 45 countries. Up to $20,000 a week, Amazon’s sales were high within the first 2 months. Being a virtual space for selling books, its inventory was, in essence, unlimited.
