eBay is a globally well-known company specialising in e-commerce sales through trading and auction. The company was founded by Pierre Omidyar in 1995. In terms of connecting buyers with sellers, eBay was one of the very first companies to achieve this. With its focus being on trading goods and services: individuals and small businesses benefit from eBay’s selling hub. eBay is one of the market leaders in e-commerce selling.

eBay has been recognised by numerous companies and has many achievements, awards and recognitions. They are recognised in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for ‘Responsible Business’. Additionally, eBay has been selected by Fatherly as one of the ‘Best places to work for Dads’. Forbes gives eBay the title of one of ‘America’s Best Large Employers’. eBay received an A for “outstanding action on climate change” in the CPD Climate Survey. This company is number 8 on Indeed’s ‘Best Places to Work’. Newsweek referred to eBay as “One of America’s Most Responsible Companies’. The Silicon Valley Business Journal gave eBay the ‘Corporate Philanthropy Award’.

There are also some interesting financial figures and metrics to consider when evaluating eBay’s success and history. For example, eBay acquired $17.7B of ‘Gross Merchandise Volume’ in the third quarter of 2022. The amount of revenue acquired for this same quarter was $2.4B. 50% of this revenue was made from international operations. There was $633M of Free Cash Flow generated in Q3 of 2022. In terms of Business metrics, there are roughly 135M active buyers worldwide. There are approximately 1.7B live listings on eBay’s online platform. Roughly $11.1B of gross merchandise was bought on mobile devices in Q3 of 2022. Approximately $249M in first-party advertising revenue was received in Q3 of 2022.
